So I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4. Here's what I think of it:

Basically I love it.... a lot. And I wasn't expecting to. When my RAZR MAXX crapped out on me I was in a weird position. Do I wait for the rumored new phones? Do I wait for the HTC ONE to come out on Verizon? To answer these questions I headed down to the Verizon store to play with some of their phones and had already decided that if I was going to get a phone it was going to be the DNA or the S4. The DNA was meh so, not being one who can wait, I purchased the S4 sort of on a whim. Here's what I think of it:

Hardware
First off, dat screen. Dat sexy, sexy screen. It's bright, extremely crisp, and has vibrant colors. It doesn't have a weird super blue or yellow hue and is probably one of the most beautiful screens I've ever seen on a phone. Next awesome thing is the camera. WOAH. Yes... mehr »

I purchased one of these a few weeks ago from a dude on Craigslist for $25, but this is a pretty good deal on a refurb for this unit.

Let me tell you what this guy is good for though. This little dude is the cheapest way to stream from PS3 Media Server (which transcodes your MKVs and shit on the fly) to a TV in HD. I have a PC running PS3 Media Server and can stream to this guy and my PS3 in the living room at the same time even (as long as it's not transcoding both streams at once). 

Pick this up if you already stream your legally downloaded movies to your PS3 using PS3 Media Server (Windows or Linux) and want the same functionality as the PS3 in another room with a smaller footprint. It even has Pandora unlike the PS3.

So I've been dicking around with Intel SRT (Smart Response Technology) and an SSD drive. Intel SRT will allow you to use up to a 64gb SSD drive as smart cache on a system. You basically enable raid in the bios and then attach the drive and adjust the Intel RST software to turn the drive into some super fast cache.

The performance increase is pretty substantial. I'm seeing the quicker boot times, quicker application loads and there's no need for 2 separate partitions for me to organize and keep track of what goes where.

You may be thinking "Why not just put your OS and your apps/frequently used shit on the SSD and the rest on your HDD?" Well, I'm a game jumper and have over 400GB of games on my HDD at any given time, probably more actually. The constant swapping of whatever game I am interested in at the time to the SSD would be a pain in the ass... mehr »

This is a sweet desktop player for Google Music. It was just updated to include the All Access features.

Just download from the mirror and unzip to a folder then create a shortcut on your desktop or wherever. I would also go into the options and uncheck the "use custom css" as this makes it look a little funky to me, but you may like the dark theme.

Handy #googlemusic  tip for all you music lovers out there.

If you click on the gear icon (settings) on the top right of your Google Music browser window and select "music labs" you will see an option to use HTML5 instead of Flash for Google Music.

Why is this important you might ask? Well..it'll prevent pesky skipping when loading up pages with youtube videos for one or other flash media that tries to mess with your sound stream.
