National World War II Memorial

"The U.S. National World War II Memorial is a national memorial dedicated to Americans who served in the armed forces and as civilians during World War II. Consisting of 56 pillars and a pair of small triumphal arches surrounding a plaza and fountain, it is located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on the former site of the Rainbow Pool at the eastern end of the Reflecting Pool, between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.

It opened to the public on April 29, 2004, and was dedicated by President George W. Bush on May 29, 2004, two days before Memorial Day.[1] The memorial is administered by the National Park Service under its National Mall and Memorial Parks group.[2] As of 2009, more than 4.4 million people visit the memorial each year."

New details on Google's 'epic piece of branding': The Internship.

+The Internship is mainstream film comedy built entirely around Google. Who approached whom on this project?

Answer: Vince Vaughn approached Google.

That's just one of many details about the movie in a very good piece by +Jessica Guynn and Dawn C. Chmielewski in +Los Angeles Times.

For example, +Sergey Brin has two cameos in the movie and Google's driverless car has one cameo. Google helped the filmmakers create a fake Googleplex as a film set at Georgia Tech. Gmail, Google+, Google Wallet and Google Maps are "highlighted." Google even helped with dialog in two scenes.

Google knows what's in your pictures. I'll prove it.

Choose "Photos" from the left navigation bar. Type in any search term. Google+ will show all the pictures you've ever uploaded describable by that term.

I searched for "car," "cat," "dog," "jewelry" and many others, and in every case, Google+ showed me all the pictures of those items -- including private pictures I have never shared.

This is amazing. Try it!

17-Hours Does Yosemite!

Yes, another short trip up north to Yosemite Valley. It was another last minute decision to take the 5 hours drive into Yosemite Valley to catch some Milky-Way awesomeness. Of course this trip did not contain an once of sleep between the two of us, just hunkering down on top of Glacier Point for the whole night.

The moonless night made for some pretty dark skies and even colder temperatures. The only light we had that night was a distant lightening storm that was attacking some mountains in the surrounding valleys.

This image was one of my last of the night (sunrise). I was about done from the long and cold night, but as soon as the morning light began to fill the valley, I had a second wind.

A lot of people ask me about my workflow - how I process photos and that sort of thing. Lightroom 4 is a big part of it, and the new Lightroom 5 (currently in Beta) will be as well. I find Lightroom to be so much easier than Photoshop (though I use that too!) On Wednesday, the Lightroom product team will be hosting a hangout where we can all ask questions and hear what's going on with the new product. My photographer friends

Vasari's fresco begun in 1568, and completed by Federico Zuccaro in 1579.

The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (English: Basilica of Saint Mary of the Flower) is the main church of Florence, Italy. The Duomo, as it is ordinarily called, was begun in 1296 in the Gothic style to the design of Arnolfo di Cambio and completed structurally in 1436 with the dome engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi. The exterior of the basilica is faced with polychrome marble panels in various shades of green and pink bordered by white and has an elaborate 19th-century Gothic Revival façade by Emilio De Fabris.
The cathedral complex, located in Piazza del Duomo, includes the Baptistery and Giotto's Campanile. The three buildings are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site covering the historic centre of Florence and are a major attraction... mehr »

5 Years ago today my mother passed away from PSP.
Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

This is a rare, horrific neurodegenerative disease. It is relentless.
There is no treatment, no cure.
It robs you of your ability to see, ability to swallow, ability to speak, ability to walk, ability to use your hands and so on... yet it does not rob you of your mind. You remain painfully aware of everything that is happening to you.

I am posting this to raise awareness and in honor of Barbara Varallo who fought this disease valiantly and then donated her brain to The Cure PSP Research Program. She wanted desperately for there to be a cure found...
