This is a rare meteorological phenomenon called a skypunch. When people see these, they think it's the end of the world. Ice crystals form above the high-altitude cirro-cumulo-stratus clouds, then fall downward, punching a hole in the cloud cover. Freakishly weird!

ICELAND. No news from Iceland?… why? How come we hear everything that happens in Egypt but no news about what’s happening in Iceland:

In Iceland, the people has made the government resign, the primary banks have been nationalized, it was decided to not pay the debt that these created with Great Britain and Holland due to their bad financial politics and a public assembly has been created to rewrite the constitution.

And all of this in a peaceful way. A whole revolution against the powers that have created the current global crisis. This is why there hasn’t been any publicity during the last two years: What would happen if the rest of the EU citizens took this as an example? What would happen if the US citizens took this as an example.

This is a summary of the facts:

ICELAND. No news from Iceland?… why? How come we hear everything that happens in Egypt but no news about what’s happening in Iceland:

And all of this in a peaceful way. A whole revolution against the powers that have created the current global crisis. This is why there hasn’t been any publicity during the last two years: What would happen if the rest of the EU citizens took this as an example? What would happen if the US citizens took this as an example.

This is a summary of the facts:

2008. The main bank of the country is nationalized.
The Krona, the currency of Iceland devaluates and the stock market stops. The country is in bankruptcy

2008. The citizens protest in front of parliament and manage to get new elections that make the resignation of the prime minister and his whole government.
The country is in bad economic situation.
A law proposes paying back the debt to Great Britain and Holland through the payment of 3,500 million euros, which will be paid by the people of Iceland monthly during the next 15 years, with a 5.5% interest.

2010. The people go out in the streets and demand a referendum. In January 2010 the president denies the approval and announces a popular meeting.
In March the referendum and the denial of payment is voted in by 93%. Meanwhile the government has initiated an investigation to bring to justice those responsible for the crisis, and many high level executives and bankers are arrested. The Interpol dictates an order that make all the implicated parties leave the country.

In this crisis an assembly is elected to rewrite a new Constitution which can include the lessons learned from this, and which will substitute the current one (a copy of the Danish Constitution).
25 citizens are chosen, with no political affiliation, out of the 522 candidates. For candidacy all that was needed was to be an adult and have the support of 30 people. The constitutional assembly starts in February of 2011 to present the ‘carta magna’ from the recommendations given by the different assemblies happening throughout the country. It must be approved by the current Parliament and by the one constituted through the next legislative elections.

So in summary of the Icelandic revolution:
-resignation of the whole government
-nationalization of the bank.
-referendum so that the people can decide over the economic decisions.
-incarcerating the responsible parties
-rewriting of the constitution by its people

Have we been informed of this through the media?
Has any political program in radio or TV commented on this?
No! The Icelandic people have been able to show that there is a way to beat the system and has given a democracy lesson to the world.

Please spread the news as Iceland is the role model now although sooner or later, the banksters will start demilishing their nationalized bank.___

The Doge’s Palace was the seat of the Republic of Venice for centuries before it became part of Italy in 1866. The current palace was constructed between 1309 and 1424. It is here that I composed this image of the backs of the statues looking out to the courtyard and the ornate other side of the palace.___

Hubble Captures Violent Birth Pangs of Enormous Star

NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has spotted a young star undergoing violent birth.

The star, named S106 IR, has a mass of about 15 times that of our sun and lies approximately 2,000 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus, the Swan. Formed from a cloud of gas and dust with more than 25,000 times the sun’s mass, the star is just about to mature and settle down to what astronomers call the main sequence portion of its life, where it will glow steadily like our sun.

As I was travelling the coast, I managed to "lose" about 500 shots. In the lost shots, there was one of Cannon beach's Haystack rock, which I wanted to dedicate to +Trey Ratcliff. My friend +Jon Yamasato was actually the first person to post an image that got me wondering what HDRs were, but Trey taught me the rest. I had a system of backing up my memory card nightly, but apparently I missed some. Maybe I accidentally hit cancel midway. My netbook was painfully slow. I blame old age lol.

Without my filters, HDR becomes an invaluable tool. The clouds and the lighting setup for a "make me an HDR" shot.

Good night G+!

Photography Tip: Full Moon Landscape Exposure Settings

You know tomorrow is full moon and here is an easy recipe for a good full-moon landscape exposure:

I switch my camera to Manual mode and usually start with a high ISO setting to verify the exposure and check the composition as it might be too dark to see it with your eyes:

ISO 3200
f/4
2 seconds

This usually works very well if the moon is not covered by any clouds - you might have to adjust +/- 1 stop. If the exposure looks OK, I drop the ISO and aperture and got for a 30 seconds exposure:

ISO 400
f/5.6
30 seconds

This should give you the same exposure but with less noise - you can obviously drop the ISO even more and go for a few minute exposures and if you totally like the composition and want star trails you can do this:

ISO 100
f/16

16 minutes (plus Long Exposure Noise reduction which doubles the exposure time to 32 minutes)

You can obviously also go totally crazy and add ND filters to your lens to get even longer exposures but especially in winter I tend to not to that :)

EXIF Info:

Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Exposure: 118 sec (1/0)
Aperture: f/8
Focal Length: 35 mm
ISO Speed: 320___

You Guessed It - More Driftwood
I made this image on Driftwood Beach, Jekyll Island, Georgia. It was twilight after sunset and though the sky still had quite a bit of colour the foreground was fairly dark. I made three exposures: one to expose for the sky, one for the mid-tones and one for the dark foreground, and then I combined the exposures in post-processing using Photomatix. After that I brought the image in to my new software Nik Color Efex Pro to adjust the colours. I got a great deal on the software at one of those Cyber-Monday sales last month and I am really starting to like using it.

To those in her everyday world, she came off as reserved, orderly, perhaps a bit distant. Really great fashion sense, all agreed on that. Direct? Oh, very. Not so easily labelled, tho - which made some folks exceedingly uncomfortable. She wasn't above using this fact to her advantage when necessary.

Once home... now that was an entirely different matter.

#SunsetSaturday (Theme by +TJ Kelly)
#SkySunday (Theme by +Simone Linke)

A view of a gazebo just after sunset with some interesting cloud coverage. This is an HDR and I also blended it with several textures.

Hawaiian Beauty

Late afternoon at Makapuu Beach, Oahu, Hawaii. The volcanic rocks in the foreground and the surf set the mood for the dramatic clouds that came rolling in!

Tense

Wow - I almost missed submitting something for #SanFranciscoSaturday :) An in keeping with some of the other images I have seen today, this is an image shot at the wonderful Sutro Baths location. I wish there was a web cam out here that I knew of, because it is on the opposite side of the city from where I live, so I have to drive over the hill just to see what the weather is like. In this town, there are so many microclimates that it is hard to tell what it is doing elsewhere.

Go Cardinal!

Rendered this landscape thinking about upcoming ski season. Hope it will be good one this year. Used Vue and Photoshop in this cg. Enjoy if you like computer graphics.
