Scott Jarvie446,584*POST YOUR GOOGLE+ ALBUM OF PICTURES* It's been very very popular event in the past and I'm finally doing it again tonight. _This time it will be more organized, more heads up than usual and even a live event._ *SHARE AN ALBUM/GALLERY LINK* It's simple and easy but a lot of work and very fun for all. You simply share an album here and I'll be going through every single one of the albums. Then I will +1 the pictures in the album that I'm really drawn to. *BENEFIT* Well it's simply if you'd love to know which pictures I like most.  I always loved knowing which pictures people really love of mine because it helps me have an eye for which pictures are best received. It's a huge part of becoming a better photographer in my opinion. _*To be able to put out great art is first to know what great art looks like*_ *ON AIR* This will be something new... I'm going to go through all the albums Live, Online as an On-Air hangout. I'll talk a little bit about what I'm doing. If the show goes well I'll keep it for later viewing on YouTube... if the recording isn't great I won't. *SPECIAL GUEST* Because I want to have an outloud conversation about what and why I'm doing things  I will have my good friend and great photographer @109486822103622036238 on the show to facilitate the discussion. She will also visit a lot of these albums and +1 pictures as well. We ask that everyone add her to a circle ... not just because she's awesome (though that's reason enough) but so that if any of these albums are by mistake limited access she will have access. *DIRECTIONS* 1. Paste a link of a Google+ image gallery 2. Put a title or description of what we'll see in the album 3.  *IMPORTANT* If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and perhaps your profile in a recorded Youtube video. 4. Make sure the album is Public access 5. Add @100962871525684315897  @109486822103622036238 to your circles 6. Return the favor. Take some of the other people's albums and +1 some of your favorites. *IMPORTANT* It bears repeating: _If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and your profile (maybe) in a recorded Youtube video._ Do not post a link if you are not ok with lots of people visiting that link in addition to us and are not ok with it being on video as well.Share your Album- A Jarvie PlusOne Critique Experience2012-09-12 05:30:00141

After watching the first episode by himself, my husband convinced me to watch the series with him. Three quarters into the season, and I am absolutely fascinated by this show in general, and Matthew McConaughey in particular. Fantastic television. My recommendation: Definitive must watch. And I haven't even finished the season yet.

25. Sunset
And then, like that, finally the real colours started to show up... it was cold, the wind blowing like crazy, and my fingers numb. But if I could, I would go back tomorrow. I stood there for an hour, and I would do it again tomorrow.

So it's a birthday celebration, is it? Google is 5 years old, and I'm so glad to be part of this great social network. I wasn't in the first wave. I got in with the second, or possibly with the third. I was just not cool enough to be there at the beginning.

I wasn't cool back then, and I still don't think I fit in. I'm not nearly cool or creative enough two have more than 27 followers... But there you are. Not giving up on me. Still reading what I write, still looking at the pictures I post. I don't get it, and I never will. 5 years don't change that. Fuck it, 50 won't change it either.

Looking back at my posts, it occurs to me that I still have a lot of growing up to do. But I don't want to.

And you can't make me. So there.

#Gplus5

I’m not cool.

On the eve of hitting 20,000 followers, I have a to come clean about something you may have suspected all along: I am not cool. I don’t think I have ever been. I was one of the uncool crowd for as long as I can remember. In elementary school I was considered ugly and dumb. The cool kids usually waited for me after school, to taunt me and beat me up. Later, in high school I survived by taking on the role as class clown. I ended up falling in love with the first guy that showed any interest in me, 12 years my senior, and that was only the beginning of a series of poor choices. Needless to say, my youth wasn’t much fun: I grew up thinking I was ugly, and dumb, and my self esteem was in the pits.

Still, to this day, I have a hard time accepting compliments. Even when I am proud of something, and I know the praise must be sincere, I tend to not let the feeling of pride take over, never let my guard down, just to avoid another disappointment, another realization that they are just playing with me.

When you’re cool, you know how to handle compliments and praise. You say the right things at the right time. You have cool friends. You never need to call anyone, they always call you. Nothing happens without you knowing about it. But you’re too cool to care about anything anyway.

Well, I’m not cool. If you circled me because you thought I was part of the “in crowd”, then I’m sorry to disappoint you. I’m so far from cool, it’s not even funny. I have never been to a class reunion. I never been invited to a teenage girl pyjama party. I’m NOT a pro photographer. I have 92 empty slots in my 100 speed dials and to this day only 167 friends on Facebook. I constantly say the wrong things at the right time, and the right things at the wrong time. I don’t not know what’s going on, what’s new and what’s hip, or how to play the game. I don't even have a flippin' G+ page!!! I’ve just never been one of the cool kids. And I am not one of the cool kids here on G+ either.

Hey, but I’m cool... with that. :)___So it's a birthday celebration, is it? Google is 5 years old, and I'm so glad to be part of this great social network. I wasn't in the first wave. I got in with the second, or possibly with the third. I was just not cool enough to be there at the beginning.

26. The End of a Trip
Well, we reached the end of our three-day trip around the Olympic Peninsula. The next morning, we would drive six hours back home.
I came away with a different feel of the region I have come to appreciate through a book. I saw first-hand the forests, the rain, and ever-present ocean, that surrounds the peninsula and cradles it gently, while holding its inhabitants hostage between water and mountains.
I would love to go back tomorrow. But onwards we go, to our next adventure. I will leave you with this last image of the evening clouds, looking north-west, where there is nothing but ocean, and sky.

I miss it already.

Three quarters into the season, and I am absolutely fascinated by this show in general, and Matthew McConaughey in particular. Fantastic television. My recommendation: Definitive must watch. And I haven't even finished the season yet.

Online Grocery Shopping - One Month Update
After 17 years of weekly grocery shopping trips with the family, for the past month we have done our grocery shopping online - either requesting home delivery, or picking the ordered groceries up in the store. Turns out, it's not just more fun and less annoying, it's also saving us an average of $ 50 per week! This is big. At first, I thought it was a fluke, but now it seems to be confirmed. While we'd spend between $ 225 and $ 275 when going shopping into the store, we now spend around $ 175 and $ 205 when shopping on the computer. Just because I don't wander the aisles and keep seeing things I think I need... Craziness. Ok, if you haven't tried online shopping yet, maybe you should too.

Some tips:
1. Make yourself a shopping list. That's a fundamental necessity. Don't go shopping unprepared - be it to the store or on the computer. I use an app called "Paprika", which is a recipe database, a menu planner, and shopping list extractor. I basically choose which recipes to make during the week, then the app tells me what I need to buy to make those meals. Buy only the things on your list. Nothing else. Duh.

2. Pick the items that are on sale. But only if they are on your list. Just because an item is on sale doesn't mean you need it, and that you will in fact consume it. Unless it's something like toilet paper. That stuff won't go bad, and you'll always need it.

3. When getting the groceries, make sure you check the expiry dates on everything, and compare with your menu plan. If the chicken expires on the 23rd, but you didn't plan on making it until the 25th, throw it in the freezer. Believe me, this is important. Meat is one of the most expensive items. I threw out one too many meat packages because I didn't check. And the expiry date of meat is one you don't want to mess with.

4. Keep a pantry list with items you always have to have on hand, and make sure you keep it updated, so you know when you need to restock. I'm talking about things like salt, flour, rice, etc.

Hope this helps some. Bring your grocery shopping into the 21st century, and stop wasting food, and money.___

24. b) The beach was wide, incredibly wide. From the dunes in the back to the edge of the water, it was a long hike. And there were people, lots of them. I saw a young couple, strolling by, not realizing that they were in my picture, and stopping to play with the waves just right in front of me. But I had time. I could wait. But there was one lady who kept on standing still at the far right of my screen, staring at something on the water. I couldn't make it out from where I was, but she came towards me later, telling me that she had been observing a bald eagle eating crab. If you look closely, you can see her, and him.

24. a) What amazed me the most was the sheer flatness of the beach. Every time a wave would retreat, I was left with a mirror before me, interrupted only with small ripples of the next wave coming from a different direction. I just stood there and stared, and took pictures. The wind, the cold, nothing seemed to bother me. I wanted to stay for ever and watch the waves. But the sun was setting fast, and we were off to the main beach in front of our hotel, to catch the sunset.
I never understood what sort of thing the "Magic Hour" was supposed to be. Now I do.

23. Oh deer!
When we finally reached Ocean Shores, it was past 5 pm. The town seemed deserted. We checked into our hotel and then went to dinner. After dinner, we decided to go to the beach to wait for the sunset. On our way there, we noticed that the town wasn't so deserted anymore. There were deer, everywhere. They walked across the streets, into backyards, through the strip mall, like they owned the place. It was quite something.

Amazon used to be my go-to website for reading reviews. If something had a good rating on Amazon, it was most likely to be a good product. And more often than not, I ended up buying the product right there.

Something has changed. With "sponsored products" ruining every search, and products with high ratings where the most favourable reviews comes from people who got the product for free, I can't trust Amazon anymore.

Fake reviews is a growing trend all over the Internet and the once useful rating system is down in the dumps. I hope this trend can be stopped before it's too late...

20. The Puffin on 101
After leaving La Push, we made our way back out to the 101, and at the exact intersection, we stopped at the Puffin. It was highly recommended on Google, Yelp and Zomato, so we decided to have our lunch there. With the marijuana shop right next door, we weren't sure if the name Puffin was supposed to be about the bird, whose pictures were proudly displayed all over the restaurant, or because of the pot shop next door. Either way, it was an excellent meal, and if you should ever find in the area of La Push, stop at the Puffin. With the funky tables covered in pennies, and the Caribbean menu, it's something not to be missed.

19. b) La Push's harbour is protected by a little island and some sort of man made seawall, which will make sure the storms don't play ping pong with the fishing boats. When you are standing on the huge pile of driftwood that has been swept on land by the tides you appreciate the ocean's destructive power, made more dangerous by the cargo the water is carrying. Like a five-year-old in a kiddy pool... with a sling shot.

I'm a big fan of clam chowders, but it's really hard to get good ones. On our recent trip to Ocean Shores, WA, I ate what I believe is the best clam chowder I ever had. I search the interwebz high and low to find a proper recipe for a Pacific North West chowder, and I kinda found it - but it's not nearly as good as the one I had at the Shilo Inn...
