Kira Kroger (mistyayn)17,057Space Needle Converges at the Seattle Center Event Details: https://sites.google.com/site/seattlecenterconvergence/ If you have any questions please ask in this event. Please feel free to make your way to pop kitchen + bar (inside EMP) after events are over at the Seattle Center (approx 7PM).  Joe Philley will be there and would love to meet as many people as possible. The History: Over fifty years ago, an XM anomaly so strong so as to be detectable with 60s science was discovered. Under the cover of the 1962 World's Fair it was suppressed and contained by a novel structure known as the Space Needle. The project disappeared into classified files. But the energy within the anomaly was too strong for primitive human technology to hold for long. The defenses are wavering. Fifty years worth of alien energies are about to be unleashed, and no field can hope to contain them. We know when it will happen. Only the faction that controls the site of the World's Fair can hope to tap into some fraction of that stored power - and bend the power surge to their own ends.  Containment will fail on May 4th. Scientists of both factions are studying the implications, and are on track to uncover a way to exploit the anomaly by April 15th. Mission orders for May 4th will be released at that time. *tl;dr* This is a player planned event at the Seattle Center on May 4th.  The official rules will be added to this event on April 15th.  There will be a get together following the event, details will also be added on April 15th.  (please check back for more information).Space Needle Convergence (Player Initiated Event)2013-05-04 14:30:00125

Security is a primary concern for cloud users and deployers alike. OpenStack in particular has a very active and vibrant community, with over 1800 contributors to the latest release, but also faces the same security challenges that any large software project does. How should we deal with vulnerabilities? What secure configuration choices should I use when deploying a cloud? As a developer what do I need to know to write secure code? Since 2012 the OpenStack security project has existed to help answer these questions and develop tools and guidance. This talk will briefly discuss the various initiatives the OpenStack security project are involved in and provide information for interested developers, security professionals, and students to get involved.

Great stuff here.

Hey speakers, did you know that with a bit of preparation, you can stream and record your talk via Hangouts on Air tomorrow? It's pretty straightforward if you install Hangouts this evening. Here's an excrutiatingly detailed account of what to click to make it happen:

1) Make sure you have the Google Hangouts plugin installed on the system from which you'll be presenting. https://www.google.com/tools/dlpage/hangoutplugin will help you find the right download for your distro. Install and test the plugin a few hours before your talk, if possible. Go through Google's tests to make sure it's playing nicely with your microphone.

2) Get the SeaGL account login from an op in the #seagl channel on Freenode, or have them add your Google account as a manager on the SeaGL Google+ page. Test the following steps without acutally creating a hangout to make sure you have permissions, and then repeat them when it's time to broadcast:

3) 10 minutes before your talk starts, go to your room and connect to the wifi (connection information is probably in the corner of the whiteboard). Go to the SeaGL Google+ page, https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/105971622418115358467/+SeaglOrg/ in a browser where you're logged into Google+ as an account with permissions to manage the SeaGL page.

4) At the very top of the page, there's a ribbon that tells you that you're a manager of the page. Click the "manage this page" button.

5) In the upper left, directly below the Google+ logo, there's a dropdown labeled either "Google+ Page" or "My Business". Mouse over it, and click on "hangouts" in the list that appears.

6) You'll be taken to a page with a "hangouts on air" informative blurb thing. Click the big blue "start a hangout on air" on it.

7) Input the session name for the hangout name and your talk's abstract for the talk description. You can get your talk's abstract from the Lanyrd schedule at http://lanyrd.com/2014/seagl/schedule/ . If it's more than a few minutes until your talk, you can say that it starts later, and specify your talk's start time.

8) Click the big green "share" button at the bottom. If you said your talk will start later, you're taken to a screen with your hangout and a "join" button. Click the join button.

9) A window will pop up, spin a loading icon a the bottom for a bit, and then give you an interface with an "off air" light and a "go live" button.

10) On the left side of the screen, there's a "screenshare app". It's a little green monitor icon with a white arrow on it. Click the screenshare button, and select which screen you want to share (preferably the one with the slides on it).

11) Make sure your mic is not muted, hit the "go live" button, and give your talk!

12) After your talk is over, close the hangout window or hit the disconnect button in the interface.

Your talk will now have been livestreamed while you present, and recorded on Youtube for posterity!___Great stuff here.
