Eileen O'Duffy11,884This is my Irish circle of friends. These people are either Irish or living and working in Ireland. They include a mixture of photographers, artists, writers, educators, technology, business people and more. Some don’t post very often, some only share limited to their circles. But they all have one thing in common: I know them, they are good people and genuine people and I always enjoy their posts. If I’ve left somebody out by mistake, please let me know. I’m so delighted to have met some of you through this Ireland community over the last week, I’d never have found you otherwise! 2012-12-20 23:22:44362215

Eileen O'Duffy8,684Guaranteed Irish Circle  #Ireland #GuaranteedIrish #SharedCirclesThis is my Irish circle. It includes artists, musicians, educators, technology people, business people, writers, historians photographers and much more. They all have one thing in common: they are Irish and either living in Ireland or Irish people living abroad. Some post limited i.e. share news of Irish interest only and some have drifted back to Twitter and I’m hoping to get them back here on G+ again. I’ve also included +Dirk Talamasca and given him honorary Irish citizenship as we manage the +Ireland  page together with  +Micheál Walsh. The +CircleCount  database is also useful if you are looking for Irish people http://www.circlecount.com/ie/popular/BTW I don’t normally share awesome/engaging/interactive circles as everybody I follow is awesome/engaging or I wouldn’t be following them in the first place! My circles are open, i.e. everybody I follow is public on my profile, not just a selected few VIP’s! Sláinte! 2012-09-02 20:16:01266633329
Meilani MacDonald5,498Readers and Writers CircleCame across a request from +Amanda Blain for circles of bloggers and writers.  So seems like a good time to share them :)  This circle contains both writers and readers aka fans of writing and writers. Added myself because although I looooove to read.  I dabble a little bit in writing, but nothing I've shared with anyone besides a select few friends.  Well stories anyway, goddess knows I put my two cents out there enough here on G+ in posts and comments, lol.edited:  woopsie and of course I forgot to add myself in there.  Please do me a favor and add me in somewhere if you share?  Because I do love a good story!!  Are you a writer or fellow lover of good stories?  Leave a comment below and let us know so we can add you to this fabulous circle :)2012-08-25 05:23:241203011
Meilani MacDonald2,931Reading and Writing!I love a good story! In fact, I'm not sure there's anything I like more. Well, ok, flowers and nature maybe, but it's flowers, nature and good stories all the way! One of the things I love about Google+ is that it has exposed me to many people who are great writers, bloggers, self-published book authors, and also other people who love to read, oh and also publishers and services for authors. I've been collecting them into a circle I call Reading and Writing. As I finally get settled for a good Sunday read with +Jacob Dix's story The Hives, that he has been so gracious to share with us here on Google+, I thought why not share my Reading and Writing circle so that you all can connect with these great writers and fellow book lovers too :)And btw here is the link to Jacob's story: https://plus.google.com/100152754393360938972/posts/cuaV9awxrsmHappy Reading! #reading #writing #writers #authors #booklovers #books2012-05-27 22:19:42103113

Armando Lioss9,721“Active Engagers Shared Circle” 2.1In this shared circle you will find some interesting people to add to your circles, all of these GPlussers currently are actively engaging with my posts as well as with other GPlussers’ posts, so you can be sure they are getting involved in the G+ community. The main purpose of this series of Shared Circles is to expose new GPlussers, but you may find even first generation ones in them, in order to give everybody an opportunity this version include only GPlussers that have not been included in my “Active Engagers Shared Circle” 2.0, if you are looking for a more comprehensive list of active engagers you may want to review this list as well: https://plus.google.com/u/0/111635150542674847021/posts/KVJLKb25SatIf you do not wish to be included in my future shared circles, please let me know with a comment to this post. I will remove you from this and any future shared circle I create, but I will keep you in my G+ circles.Furthermore, with each version I try to include new active engagers that are looking to meet other GPlussers to interact with, but I understand the old users may not have as much interest to meet new users and won’t circle them back, so I will prefer including users that really want to interact with new users. For TIPS TO GET PEOPLE TO CIRCLE YOU you may want to check:https://plus.google.com/u/0/111635150542674847021/posts/Q6c3ikBhdT3Thank you for your help making Google Plus adventure and exhilarating one… #SharedCirecles #CircleShare #ActiveUsers #Engagers #Commenters #TopCircles PS: I don’t necessarily share or identify the views of these GPlussers, in fact with some of them we have completely antagonistic points of view and dissimilar interests…2012-04-07 17:11:19500141316

Gintas B1,442Recent days everyone started to share their circles of people with quality posts. So I want to share one with you all too.In this circle you will find people who post things which I like the most.So it would be: Anime (mostly One Piece), games, photography, science, technology, animals, nature, comics, fun gifs and other stuff. Also you will find people who are: Photographers, gamers, bloggers, athletes, G-streamers (like +Le Andre' Ward says), anime maniacs and other cool people :)So here's the circle. Find some new friends and have a good time with them, enjoy! :)2012-03-24 13:02:00501204
Rae O.5,343Not everyone has read or seen +Sean Cowen's epic post from Sunday and the comments (which is the best read on G+), here is the link to the original post:https://plus.google.com/u/0/103333429938529668020/posts/dGTBdCvPgnfThe comments have reached 500 so Sean started a new post so it can continue. https://plus.google.com/u/0/103333429938529668020/posts/fWcJTso8d1gWhat is this circle you may ask? It is everyone who commented on the original post with their two things. Why am I sharing it? Because these people were all willing to share stories about themselves and to include other people. I am sure in a thread that long that I may have missed some people and it is not a circle of 500 because people like me commented more than once. If you enjoyed what you read and want to add everyone at once, this is the circle. I named it Sean Cowen's Best Post circle. Also, if you are looking for your comment in that thread, or of someone else's: to find in this long string of comments, open the post in a seperate window, and then do a Find on this Page.cc: +CircleCount +Public Circles +Circle Plus +Shared Circles on G+2012-03-20 16:30:07280331733

I've removed most of the big hitters.I figured they're in the ten thousand range or more and will survive being cut. Will share them in a new circle in the not too distant future. John Kellden4,179Google+ VisionariesThese 365 people are mandatory to interact with. I suggest you set aside a moment each day for each one in this circle. Which is why I've added 365 people. Seriously, do.Ok, so it's not humanly possible to do that. Think of it as a Google+ smorgasbord of awesome people then.As with my previously shared link of 500 Great Google Plus People, I've looked at these people from a number of different angles. They passed with flying colours. :)#sharedcircles #sharedcircle #circleshare2012-03-19 11:09:54365231829

Max Huijgen8,441Europe calling: the old giant wakes up and calls on its peeps!now that Europe shows up as the largest continent on G+ self awareness goes up and initiatives to get together flourish. It all started this Monday with my request to post your country if you were European. I offered to circle the first 500 who would do so without any obligation to circle back. Result: we needed a part2 as we hit the 500 comments limit. The original post was shared 225 times. You can find it here:https://plus.google.com/112352920206354603958/posts/CdhmHGbYjgiPart 2 is still open and can be found here:https://plus.google.com/112352920206354603958/posts/NDAhG4fP2a7If you didn´t do so already, post there and as long as I have spots free, I will circle you as I want to see my streams come alive during European hours. There was a shared feeling that it would be great to get some attention from G+ for Europe with official hangouts from the community managers during European times, feature roll-outs from Google no longer restricted to the US, having some central point to share European circles and last but not least the desire to have hangouts without having to burn the midnight oil. To help solve this and get Europeans together on the same page I created +Europeans on G+ It already has three managers out of the community but feel to offer a bit of your time as it must be a community project. Circle the page if you didn´t already do so. The first post can be found here:https://plus.google.com/100160648652252546872/posts/QXAJ1DFma68The community of Europeans responded and we got the following new initiatives:An compilation of the who is who in the EU countries:The Euro 200 Circle by +Euro Maestro Who are the most followed in Europe ? This is really curious. What was going on? Why did the pilot end up outside the cockpit with the door locked unable to get back in? Really bizarre. Sudden decompression? Hijack? I hope the situation will become clearer. The conspiracy theorists will probably love this one if the authorities say it's not a hijack, but the story isn't water-tight.

If you're looking for the next generation of insular nut-cases, who will go around the world spreading terror, look no further than the "free" schools. Religion has no part in education. If people want their children to "learn" religion, let them do it as an extracurricular activity.

If there's one good thing that can come from this, it might be that the reaction to what will result in the coming years, might finally mean that religion is off the "educational" platter in UK schools. Either that, or the regulators will spend the next 30 years trying their best to keep closing the really bad ones down. It depends how good the oversight is.

I don't agree with everything this man says (particularly about the gender pay gap possibly not being a real thing) but this is very well written and thought out generally. I often find myself "self -censoring" because not all my views fit in with a particular narrative or theme, and I'm sure I'm less "popular" than I otherwise might be because I don't ascribe completely to any one group, movement, or "thing".

However, I disagree that "difficult" voices belong in politics - that is what party whips are for. If you become part of the machine you have to compromise some of your beliefs. I wonder if the author would like a return to the bad old days of infighting that weakened the left so much, and I disagree that the "left" is the the only answer.

However, I disagree that "difficult" voices belong in politics - that is what party whips are for. If you become part of the machine you have to compromise some of your beliefs. I wonder if the author would like a return to the bad old days of infighting that weakened the left so much, and I disagree that the "left" is the the only answer.___

As a recently retired social sciences teacher, I was appalled by instances of proselytising masquerading as objective RE teaching in state schools. Dawkins is not being intolerant when he asserts that there is no such thing as a Roman Catholic or Muslim child. The ability of different faiths to be able to use state schools to coerce and socialise some of our children into particular world views is a pernicious outrage and an assault on their human rights.

Last night's entertainment

We dropped the kids at the aunty's at around 14:30, drove to Kildare Village (where I purchased some new shoes to replace my bum-skaters), drove to the Red Cow, got the Luas to the IFSC (and Ely's Bar), ate quail in ham hock and pork shoulder with triple cooked chips (which were very nice), then made our way to the 3 Arena to watch Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. The highlight has to be his rendition of Champagne Supernova which I thought I would probably never get to listen to live.

He finished at 22:45. We were away on the Luas by 23:01 and got back home at a pretty reasonable 01:15. All in all, a very civilised, enjoyable evening - there was even a guy going around selling quarter bottles of red wine. I may have tinnitus for the next week though!

I half saw this as it happened last night, and my only thoughts were "what a pro". The article raises interesting points (particularly if you follow the links contained within) about continuing sexism and misogyny in our culture. But, the thing which intrigued me the most was the author's negative view of A Single Man and The King's Speech - I would be genuinely interested to hear how the (alluded to) sexism in those films (seemingly demonstrated by the female characters being  verbally in absentia) means they are poor and "risible". I'm not a monarchist or LGBT, but I thought both films were well executed in many ways. Perhaps I need to view them with more feminist glasses? Can anyone illustrate the author's point about these films for me?

This is a butter free cake - the holy grail!

The good - it's got a fantastic texture and is super-moist.

The bad - it's probably not that nice on it's own (see tip).

Tip - don't use extra virgin, it's probably too strong/bitter.

Recipe at http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/chocolate_olive_oil_cake_44817 - I only used 150g of caster sugar and as you can see, I ended up with quite a lot more height and spring in my sponge than Nigella did (I should have my own cooking show, you know). ;)

Interesting but inconclusive. I don't know that I would purchase the book to find out if there is a point, off the back of this.

Thinking now, why did she need a team of people to make her online "brand" as banal as possible? Could she not have just posted lots of cat pictures and pictures of her beloved beach (with or without accompanying ice cream)?

On the Pycon people, it's really telling what happened to the woman. The fact he was making jokes like that in public kind of tells you what the monoculture is like in Open Source.

It's a shame he's going, but also testament to him and the show, that snippets and videos of The Daily Show are regularly shared on social media. To be so consistently on the button and funny is their greatest achievement. Indeed, I can't think of another political comedy show which manages that feat. Still, looking forward, I will be interested to see what Stewart sinks his teeth into next.

This is for those of you who don't believe Ireland's stance on religion has any relevance outside of Ireland:

The academics, authors and political campaigners point out that Ireland is the only European country to have introduced a blasphemy law in the 21st century. At the UN Human Rights Council in 2009, Pakistan proposed adopting the precise wording of the Irish blasphemy law as part of the Organisation of Islamic Co-Operation’s campaign to outlaw criticism or mockery of religions.

I don't think I need to remind you how countries like Pakistan treat blasphemers. In a way, the Irish state has given Pakistan a defence for the abhorrence by introducing such a law themselves.

Enda has effectively reneged on his promise to repeal that dodgiest of dodgy blasphemy laws introduced in 2009. I'm an English atheist, get me out of here now!

Our glorious leader is meeting with Atheist Ireland today -

The advocacy group will explain how Ireland breaches the human rights of 340,000 people in the State who, according to the 2011 census, did not identify with any religion. They will illustrate how the Constitution, the education system and Irish laws and practices systemically discriminate against atheists.

This is for people who don't believe what I and my children are being put through, is a real thing. I await a dismissive non-reaction from the government/Enda.

Only 2 of those 4 are anywhere near leading, and that's strongly debatable.
